Alas we too have our share of old bad 70's style structures. Unfortunately because the uni, started out as a engineering school all the science buildings except for a few are their original design. The top one is mechanical and civil engineering, the middle pic is engineering general and the bottom pic is science gen lecture hall, but mostly used by chemistry, physics and the computer labs. On the plus side, Curtin is currently erecting a huge new building at the front of campus as they plan on doing medicine at Curtin soon. The engineering buildings really feel old and dodgy. So math, physics and the entire rest of campus have got it good with their new fancy buildings. News is though that these buildings on the left, are lined up for a refurbishment.

Oh. You go to Curtin? Thought you went to the Uni of Western Aus. Anyways, it's quite a nice school. Very modern. In fact, your school was started in 1986 according to Wikipedia, so it's the same age as me!

By the way, I quite enjoy your photos. Very nice. If you want a tip for the budding photographer in you, then I would suggest getting closer to your subjects.

I notice in all your pictures that you choose to frame a bit far away from the subject, so the viewer never gets an idea of what to focus on.

For example, take the middle picture (the one for engineering general). Imagine how neat that picture would be if you stood at the base of the building and chose to direct the camera almost vertically upwards. This would really show the geometrical lines of building and also would show off its height. But from far away, you just get a vague picture of how impressive the building could be.

The biggest hint I can give for any photographer (including myself) is: When in doubt, get closer. Here's a picture my friend took. Something along the lines of what I was hinting at.

that is a very effective method, I can see very much how it makes the building look alot taller, almost menacing.
